What is an Arya Samaj marriage?

Arya Samaj marriage is a Vedic Hindu marriage ceremony conducted under the principles of the Arya Samaj — a Hindu reform movement founded by Swami Dayananda Saraswati. The ceremony involves sacred Vedic rituals including Havan (sacred fire ceremony) and the chanting of Vedic mantras by a qualified Arya Samaj pandit.

Arya Samaj marriages are conducted at a registered Arya Samaj Mandir and are legally recognized under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The Arya Samaj Mandir issues a marriage certificate after the ceremony, which is then registered with the government to obtain the official marriage registration certificate.

One of the main advantages is that it can be completed in a single day — ceremony, certificate, and registration can all be done quickly. It is also widely accepted for inter-caste Hindu couples, as it does not involve caste-based rituals.
